am working the night shift today. kinda quiet right now. but i had better not speak too soon though cos i'll always regret it soon after.
anyway, did i mention that i tried out for the sia flight stewardess walk-in interview last sunday? it was held at the sheraton towers hotel. never been there before till that day itself. ya, ya call me swakoo. i was there at about 9.30am and by then, there were already like 35 groups that have either gone through or were waiting in the holding ballroom. (i was in group 36 and each group had 10 girls.. so if you do the math, there were about 360 hopefuls by that time? the closing time was 12 noon so i reckon that perhaps there could be more than a 1,000 that tried out?) man, it felt so intimidating being in a room full of oh-la-la gorgeous gurls. ok most might be made up beauties but hey must give them credit for their superb make up skills too lah. some were decked up in power suits while some looked like they just came from hotel 81 or something. think it would be every guy's haven to be found in a place like that.
ok back to the holding room, there's nothing much to do besides watching the SIA gurl video on the projection screen. i reckon i must have heard that tune 'oh singapore girl, it's a great way to fly' being played at least 20 times! not to mention being told umpteen times that it's such a noble and challenging job which demands the oh-so-best personnel. yes we get the point. if not we wouldn't be waiting for over 2 hours for a bloody interview right? it was simply too much to bear after awhile and so i started to make small talk with the folks on both my right and left. must make small talk and be friendly lah otherwise you'll be bored to death. so yeah, the usual banter about 'oh is this your first time here?', 'what are you currently doing?', 'how many rounds will there be today ah?' or 'how many rounds are there ah?' and yadda yadda yadda. but still small talk didn't exactly help kill the waiting time. trust me. you must be prepared to wait your butt off.
so finally the time came where we were ushered into the room where there were 2 panelists or rather interviewers. dunno whether suay or not, but mine were 2 ladies. one kinda young and the other kinda old. so after confirming the sequence of the interviewees, off we were to give our short little introductions about ourselves and why oh why we wanna be flight stewardesses. i was the fifth person in that group so by the time it got to my turn i just mumbled whatever was on my mind though i believe i didn't sound very convincing about why i wanted the job, just gave the normal 'eh i would like to see the world' crap lor. after i was done, i was totally switched off save for a dumb smile like an idiot smile on my face.
to cut the whole story short though, only 2 gals from my group were selected. and i wasn't one of them. oh well. was it a good experience or a bloody waste of time? i would have to say it's the latter. it's no joke waiting like 3 long hours for just a 1 min opportunity to speak and get sized up. guess this is what is meant by first impressions count. but then again, first impressions are subjective, it differs one from another. one thing's for sure though. my ego is feeling pretty bruised right now.
